The concept for this album arrived in a moment.

At a storefront in Fells Point, Baltimore, house music provided a bouncy soundtrack to a beautiful afternoon. Coincidentally, a ship from the nearby harbor was beeping a horn in perfect time with the song.

Processing the compatibility and conflict of the horn in the left ear and the tune in the right, I contemplated composing lively but decaying beat-driven songs with percussion, environmental sounds, instruments, and poetry.

The idea persisted throughout the afternoon, blossomed in the evening, and by the next morning had become a creative goal.

This is the result. I hope you enjoy it.

Sit outside near a city harbor.
Hear music,
hear the repetitive horn from a ship
beeping in time with this music.
Imagine this. Again. Again.

2.
Balance on an unstable fallen tree.
Bounce.
Feel a beat of a heart.

3.
Dance wearing steel-toe boots
with laces tied together
by a cruel prankster.

4.
Sculpt,
but expect to find gaps.
Realize,
for anything that has
decayed into nothingness,
something can be added.

5.
Contemplate something
that is unwanted.
Consider those who
define it as unwanted
are apparitions.

6.
Be close to home
where an unrecognizable intrusion
is most profound.

7.
Beware
if there are
things to fear.
Dread exhaustion.

8.
Wait for life to approach,
settle,
find nourishment.
Observe life move on.

9.
Stand by the window.
Watch a dog play in the snow.

This is brooding & menacing. It has a radio waves, broken transmission feel to. The featured machines haven't neccesarily taken over, but they're inescapable. Waiting. Watching.
